Updated: Sep 13, 2021

Rolling into Bar Graphing

You may be wondering how is bowling educational!?!? We started our unit on graphing today! We played five rounds and kept track of our scores using a bar graph! When we finished, we compared our data for each game and calculated our scores. Aria won; this is the 2nd game she's beat me at this week!

Before starting your lesson, Have a brief discussion explaining what a bar graph is and its function. Be sure to Introduce new vocabulary words too.

Analyze

What is a bar graph?

A bar graph is a chart that shows numbers by length or height of bars.

What is data?

Data is a collection of information about the topic at hand. So our data is the number of pins knocked down in each round and our total score at the end.

Analyze

To think carefully about the data.

Scores pending

Bowling is a fun and tangible way for them to collect and record data. Then. When the game is over, analyze the data by calculating the total scores. Crown the winner, and don't be surprised to be asked for another round or two! All that fun rolled in with learning; who could ask for more. Honestly, I wish I could remember where I purchased the bowling set- I think it may have been in Five below?!? Unfortunately, it's been a few years, so who knows!?!?! You may be able to find something in your local 99cent store.

I have also included a bar graph worksheet and a weather pictograph, an ongoing graphing experience throughout the unit. The idea is to record rainfall for September and analyze the results at the end of the month.

All the worksheets are attached below. We'd love to see your lessons. Tag us @happpynappycurls13 on IG, have fun!
